Stochastic linearization critically re-examined

1997

Abstract The stochastic linearization technique, widely used for the analysis of nonlinear dynamic systems subjected to random excitations, is revisited. It is shown that the standard procedure universally adopted for determining the so-called effective stiffness of the equivalent linear system is erroneous in all previous publications. Two error-free stochastic linearization techniques are elucidated, namely those based on (1) the force linearization and (2) energy linearization.

Anestesisykepleieres metoder for å kontrollere cufftrykk – en observasjonsstudie

2021

Hydrophilic primer has double the risk of bracket bond failure

2002

Question: In patients who need orthodontic bracketing is a hydrophilic primer or a conventional primer more effective for bonding? Objective To compare clinical failure rates of brackets bonded with a prototype hydrophilic primer and conventional primer. Design Randomised controlled trial (RCT) in a hospital setting. Intervention A split mouth design was used. Sides were randomly allocated to either hydrophilic (supplied by 3M Unitek (Monrovia, California, USA) or conventional primer (conventional TransbondTM 3M Unitek) adhesive), with the other side having alternative primer. Brackets were applied to 33 patients using a standard procedure. A total of 266 bonds were completed with each prim…

Inhibitoren der Korrosion 24 (1) - Zur Vergleichbarkeit der Abhängigkeit der Korrosion und Korrosionsinhibierung von der Chloridionen- und Inhibitork…

1979

Urinary diversion and reconstruction.

2000

Orthotopic bladder augmentation and substitution has been established as the standard procedure for urinary diversion in many institutions, with current studies reporting mainly on continence rates and procedure-associated complications, such as the risk of impairment of neobladder function by local tumor recurrences in the small pelvis. Similarly, in other types of continent diversion, such as continent cutaneous diversion and rectal reservoirs, current interest is primarily directed towards minimization of surgery-associated complications.

Unveiling the boost in the sandwich priming technique.

2021

The masked priming technique (which compares #####-house-HOUSE vs. #####-fight-HOUSE) is the gold-standard tool to examine the initial moments of word processing. Lupker and Davis showed that adding a pre-prime identical to the target produced greater priming effects in the sandwich technique (which compares #####-HOUSE-house-HOUSE vs #####-HOUSE-fight-HOUSE). While there is consensus that the sandwich technique magnifies the size of priming effects relative to the standard procedure, the mechanisms underlying this boost are not well understood (i.e., does it reflect quantitative or qualitative changes?). To fully characterise the sandwich technique, we compared the sandwich and standard t…

Orthotopic bladder augmentation and substitution.

1999

Orthotopic bladder augmentation or substitution using intestinal segments has become a standard procedure for many disorders that cause a loss of functional or anatomical bladder capacity. From the technical point of view, reservoir configuration by detubularizing the intestinal segments is the general practice. Various techniques exist, depending which types of segments and which techniques of ureteral implantation are used. Common problems include urinary incontinence, retention, metabolic disorders, and the possibility of secondary malignancies. As a result, research has been conducted into utilizing tissues other than intestine for bladder augmentation or substitution.

Influence of the scalp thickness on the intracranial contribution to rheoencephalography

2004

In spite of the great efforts made by the scientific community, up to now there is no agreement about the rheoencephalography (REG) capability to reflect cerebral blood flow (CBF). Moreover, a standard procedure and the optimal electrode arrangement have not been established yet. In a previous study, we found, using a classical four-shell spherical model of the head and solving it by numerical methods that, theoretically, there could exist an electrode arrangement to register an REG II free of extracranial contribution. In this paper, we have studied the influence of scalp thickness on the intracranial contribution to REG II. The study has been performed by solving the head model, using in …

Dual-task conditions on static postural control in older adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis

2021

Dual-task (DT) consists of the performance of two tasks simultaneously. An index of DT difficulty has been linked to decreased postural control. Because a wide range of DT is employed, this study aimed to evaluate its effects in static balance in older adults. PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were screened, and the secondary tasks were grouped as manual, reaction time, discrimination and decision making, mental tracking, verbal fluency, working memory, or “other” tasks. A total of 66 studies have been included. The meta-analysis was conducted on 28 effects and showed a significant mean effect size of d = 0.24 (p = .02, SE = 0.10; confidence interval [0.04, 0.44]), indicating a worsening i…
